With a house full of guests, it appears that Mum does not back her own minestrone.
This follows major developments in the kitchen - as up to three of the aunties join her for a very important discussion ahead of the Sunday night family dinner.
The extended Wilston/Rossi/Mastley family are known for their roaring arguments - but this particular gridlock poses a problem that everyone wants solved.
The question at the centre of this perplexity is not a new one. In fact, it's age old.
Does the minestrone need a bit more oomph?
With the dads focused on the preparing the red meat and poultry out on the deck, Mum's bold decision to whip up a hearty vegetable soup on a 23 degree evening is now one that she appears to be uncertain of.
Each aunty is now armed with either a silicone or wooden cooking spoon, as mum graciously bows out from her stove-front position, and welcomes other opinions.
For the onlookers, it is not certain what 'oomph' actually relates to, and whether or not it is a code word for spices, heat or thickness.
This exciting culinary discourse is now attracting input from anyone within earshot, including pretentious teenage sons and older nieces.
However, there appears to be a generational agreement to not let Nanna throw her two cents in, as it is generally understood that she will enjoy handing down instructions a little too much.
However, after a lengthy spell of umming and aahhing, mum and all the aunties agree that the minestrone is nearly good to go, it just need to reduce a little and the parmeson will give it the pizzaz it needs.
