Millennial women across the globe have this morning entered meltdown mode following a HBO post announcing the hit show ‘Girls’ would be back for a reunion season next summer.
The comedy series, which first aired in 2012 and went for 6 seasons, followed 4 20-something girls trying to find their way in New York City after graduating uni.
Created and written by Lena Dunham when she was about 23, the show was initially labelled as a gritty, realistic, and younger version of Sex and the City,
It quickly became a modern classic for women in the same stage of their life and solidified Dunham as ‘the voice of her generation’, or ‘a voice’ of ‘a generation’.
Mia-Marie Michaels (32) says her phone crashed for approximately 45 minutes this morning after the news was shared into 25 group chats she’s in - some that haven’t been active since 2017.
“Akskskdkfjbjgnkfn” Mia-Marie replied to most, reviving the ancient art of the keyboard smash.
“I’m screaming” she wrote to another.
“DEAD” and “DECEASED” also made their way into a few.
Mia-Marie says Lena Dunham has single-handedly saved her 2026, which was otherwise set to be a “flop year”.
“Mother is mothering,” she said. Our central Queensland reporter noted this down with a question marked encased by two brackets.
“UGH actually so keen like I can’t wait that long.”
“Sooo keen to see if I’m still a Shosh. Like obvi I will be, but like what is 40 year old Shosh going to be like. Actually, my friends say I’m Marnie but like no one knows me better than myself and I’m Shosh, ok?”
Reports indicate HBO has already seen over 14 million yearly subscriptions renewed since the post dropped 6 hours ago.
More to come.
