A trade specialist working the floor at Mount Gravatt Bunnings in Brisbane's southside is absolutely buzzing today.
In fact, more so than usual.
The visible joy permeating through the timber aisle seems to surpass the usual zest for life that is often seen in blokes who get to talk about DIY projects all day long.
With a green apron and an ear to ear smile, Gavin wants to know if you've heard the news.
And the news really doesn't have much to do with the lengths of Radiata Pine and Tasmanian Oak that are currently stacked on either side of him.
It's bigger than that. It's a cultural moment. A real 'where were you' moment.
As a 51-year-old suburban Queenslander from the elevated southern suburbs of Brisbane. There's only one thing Gavin could be talking about.
The news is, one of Queensland's most decorated and beloved rock bands are getting back together.
"Heard it on the Ms when I was driving in today. I couldn't believe it." says Gavin.
"But it's true they reckon. The Finger's back"
An institution of Australian rock music throughout the 90s and 2000s, Powderfinger are celebrated for creating a body of work for Queensland to call their own. To this day, their ballads can still be heard pumping from the pubs, bars and buskers of Fortitude Valley every night of the week.
With ageless classics and an audience that crosses multiple generations, it's hard to believe that the band has not performed together for 16 years.
However, with the Brisbane Olympics getting closer and closer, the band has obviously had to get match fit, given the fact that they will clearly be playing at the 2032 Opening Ceremony.
Everyone always knew this day would come, but many don't know how to feel.
Gavin says he'd seen something on social media over the weekend but his immediate response was to dismiss it as fake news.
"They're on tour" he says.
"Reckon they'll play the Mansfield Tav? I seen them there in 1999. Spose they're a bit bigger than that nowadays"
"Maybe Suncorp aye. Fuck maybe they can break in the new Vic Park stadium. I can't believe it's happening. Fuck me"
"Yeah anyway the blue pine is mostly for indoors, for an outdoor deck I'd recommend the Merbau - that's your best bet for the subtropical climate"
