Eccentric billionaire Mike Cannon-Brookes is understood to have quietly downgraded from a Gulfstream private jet to an ultralight in recent days after the Federal Government announced changes to the way assets are bought and sold.

Those privy to the Atlassian co-founder's inner sanctum have told The Advocate that it was Cannon-Brookes who was strapped into the passenger seat of an ultralight aircraft seen departing Mittagong Airport this morning.

"He feels unfairly targeted by Jim and Albo's new vendetta against tech start ups and other small and medium sized enterprises," said one source.

"It's certainly been tough. First, there was the whole kerfuffle over not being able to afford cement and concrete, so he's having to build that new Atlassian building in Sydney out of wood, which is a shame,"

"Now this. No more club sandwiches and Coke Zero at 40,000ft. He's not even allowed to hold a can of Coke anymore. They let him the first time they went up last week but it got blown out of his hand and into the prop. It's lucky they didn't crash!"

On-the-record, Cannon-Brookes is yet to reply to The Advocate's queries.

More to come.
