A Townsville man is slipping on his North Queensland ugg boots tonight as he prepares to shiver at a midwinter Cowboys game.
With local weather forecasters anticipating a bitterly cold 24° at Country Bank Stadium tonight, father of four Clive Lahrs is going deep into his woollens draw to fish out his winter gear.
Throwing on a pair of old socks to wear under his thongs, Clive has told The Advocate he’s even considering putting on “his longs”, which is local slang for a pair of bootcut jeans.
“I hate winter, some of the worse months,” Clive told our reporter and he filled his thermos with hot water to make a litre sized cup of hot Milo to sneak into the stadium.
“The only decent part about winter is I’ve got an good excuse to stoke up my fire pit every weekend and put a pig on a spit.”
“I actually built the set up myself with an old lawn mower motor and the head of a gardening pitch fork…”
With his beloved Cowboys an actual sniff of making the finals this year, Clive has told our reporter he’s starting to master the art of winter catering, and will be inviting plenty of mates around to his place for finals watch parties.
“I throw a suckling pig in a bathtub with a few cups of orange juice and bourbon, let it marinate for a night, then skewer the thing and cook it over coals for ten hours.”
“I can usually fit two pigs on the fire if I use the big handle. Come around in a few weeks when we play the Titans, it’ll be bloody delicious.”
