Local Journalist Breaks The Mould By Not Having Staunch Labor Voting School Teachers As Parents

Journalist, Labor, school teachers, Betoota, break the mould,

A crack news reporter based Betoota's youthful French Quarter has this week revealed an unconventional journey to her career in the fourth estate.

While she clearly has a Comms degree from a 'University of Technology', and has a penchant for fairly regular bouts of extreme binge-drinking, Elodie Mason (25) is unique in the fact that she was raised by small business owners who have voted Liberal at every election until 2022.

This is odd for an Australian journalist, considering that 95% of them have parents that are unionised public school teachers.

However, Elodie was forged from a different fire. Her interest in journalism came from her mum and dad's keen interest in ready the newspaper every Sunday morning - as opposed to being sat in front of 5 hours of current affairs on ABC TV every Monday night.

Unfortunately, this means she didn't grow up knowing the names of every single state premier - and while she has a thorough understanding of business ethics, she has had little exposure to the enterprise bargaining agreements and general progressive social movements.

But still, her unique upbringing has seen her excel in reporting about things that her colleagues often miss.

Elodie has been employed by the Betoota Advocate's cross-city rival, The Betoota Bugle, for nearly a year now - and has made a name for herself reporting on the scandals currently plaguing the town's chamber of commerce and the brazen lawlessness of several colourful local property developers.

The fact that none of these scandals involve racism and sexual misconduct, and are instead purely related to white collar crime, is also puzzling - as Elodie breaks the mould by exposing criminal practice - as opposed to criminal conduct.

These yarns could not have been broken by generational PAYG Australians who have rather limiting blindspots when it comes to the world that exists outside of the public service or corporate email jobs.

Although, Elodie will be the first to admit that she has zero exposure to rural Australia - given the fact that neither of her parents began their careers in the bush - like the vast majority of teacher's kids, who were raised to hate the pork-barrelling National Party with every bone in their body.
