Intentionally Making Life Hard For People With No Long-Term Gain Not A Successful Political Strategy

It seems that being needlessly nasty to everyone that you deem to be weak and powerless is not a very sustainable form of politics.
Donald Trump and his supporters have learnt this the hard way today, as Americans put to bed the relentless culture wars that have been obscuring political discourse for the last decade.

The economic pain imposed on American voters is no longer being carried with the confidence that their leader knows what he's doing.

On top of this, it would now appear that actively destabilising not only your country's domestic economy but also that of every trading partner and defence ally in the world - is also not good for maintaining the support of voters.

This has been confirmed by the breaking news that long-held Republican states are starting to flip blue - as the vote count begins for the 2026 Mid-Term elections.

Democrat James Talarico has defeated Republican Ken Paxton in the fight over the state's open US Senate seat. Furthermore, it appears that the Texan Governor Greg Abbott has just been ousted by not only a democrat but a Latino woman.

Despite not having his name anywhere near the ballot, these elections have been pitched as a referendum on the character of President Trump, who has even somehow managed to cause the once ruby red state of Nebraska to elect an Independent trade unionist to the senate.

Elsewhere, states like Kansas, New Mexico, both of the Carolinas and Georgia are going blue. Even Mississippi, in the heart of the deep south, is within the margin of error.

While Americans still carry the Kennedy-era mantra of 'ask not what your country can do for you' - there looks to be growing concerns that there will be no pay-off to this very real drop in living standards that has only magnified since Trump's 'Liberation Day'.

It's almost like starting wars with no end game and whimsically announcing different trade tariffs every week might not actually improve the lives of the people who have voted for you in three different Presidential elections only to end up paying more for fuel and groceries than they did at the height of the global pandemic.
