Government To Keep Soundboarding Random Ideas In The Media All The Way Until Budget Night

The Federal Government has today confirmed to The Advocate that it's keen to continue its strategy of sussing things with the public, before having a think about whether it's something they might consider drafting some policy on.

The confirmation comes a week out from the budget, and follows a big few weeks, months and years of consistently leaking little tidbits of policy to the general public to see how they'd be received, before attempting to actually govern.

From the early days of floating some form or a corruption commission that would ultimately be brought in as 12-year-old Sumatran tiger held in captivity, the government has now mastered the art of dropping something new every couple of days.

On top of sense checking whether there's an appetite for them to actually do something in the middle of a housing and cost of living crisis, the clever play also flushes out the media takes of the commercial organisations who are ready to turn changes to negative gearing into an attack on every mum and dad investor.

"Yeah, its been good to get a vibe check on negative gearing, capital gains tax, NDIS reforms, an actual windfall tax, a made up windfall tax as result of more money being paid across the board due to inflation, and 'relief for young Australians," explained Treasurer Jim Chalmers to The Advocate today.

"I mean devising smart long term policy that our 94 seat majority could bring in to try and right the course for the nation is nice in theory," he laughed.

"But ultimately the News' and Nine's of the world want to turn the slightest change to tax policies benefiting the top tier of society into a major attack on middle class Australia."

"So we'll just drip and drop little bits and bobs all the way until budget and see what results in positive movement in the polls."

"Because that's what matters right."

More to come.
