A local CEO has this week stood by a stunning and brave call to finally put an end to his work's Melbourne Cup event.

Despite spending every day of every week for the last decade or so whinging about some element of cancel culture, Willam Henry-Smith (42) has confirmed that the Melbourne Cup is done.

The CEO of the medium sized Henry-Smith & Smiggins-Walsh law firm, explained that the Melbourne Cup is just a bit last century.

Despite having an unpublicised gambling addiction Henry-Smith says it's time for his firm to get with the times.

"It's just really icky," explained Henry-Smith, who is part of the broader business community that have quietly seized on Nup To The Cup uneasiness to quietly do away with a day where workers could go an enjoy a bit of time off the clock on the company card - and of course squeeze and extra few hours of productivity out of them.

"So I don't think we should be paying for our employees to go and drink and gamble on company time and dime."

"It's not a good look, and I think this is the year we finally put a stop to this archaic tradition," continued the man who will start looking at a Christmas party as an archaic tradition soon.

When pressed on why he was going to be out of the office on Tuesday afternoon, Henry-Smith said he had an important business meeting - and allegations that he was being hosted by Sportsbet at the Royal Betoota Racetrack for a Melbourne Cup event were completely unfounded.

More to come.
