A local man is drowning in text messages today, as he withstands waves of digital bait daring him to gamble.
Onboard the X383 bus to the Betoota CBD, 35-year-old sales manager Dom Petrovic spent his commute trying to delete thirteen text messages he’s received from prominent wagering organisation, Bet24/7, a company he’s had nothing to do with in over five years.
With a few races on Melbourne Cup Day already in the books, it’s understood Dom’s phone has been pinging hot ever since 6am, when the first message offering extra bonus bets came through.
“F*ck me, here’s another one!” swore Dom, as his phone vibrated with bonus bet offers from BetLegend, YouBeautBet and BigPuntersClub.
“And yep, here’s another text from PigBet as well, offering me $500 bet guarantee for The Hong Kong Jockey Club Stakes, whatever the hell that is?”
As a father of three kids, managing skyrocketing family finances, Dom is the kind of smart bloke who gave up having the odd flutter many years ago, when he realised wasting $50 a week gambling on a first try scorer wasn’t as enjoyable as spending it on quality time with his kids.
Having not opened any of his betting accounts in over five years, Dom can’t understand how they can keep contacting him, especially when he’s been extremely diligent and tried closing all of his accounts and unsubscribed to every text service.
“I don’t even remember which of my burner email addresses I used to sign up with them,” said Dom, as he thumbed right and booted the predatory text messages straight into the trash.
“No clue why I would've joined them, it might’ve been some special offer on a Croatian game when they went on that run in the 2018 World Cup.”
“Why won’t will these desperate c*nts leave me alone?!”
