A local 2nd-generation migrant has broken her father's heart, by simply following her own.

27-year-old paralegal, Charlotte Kaldas (27), has fallen for a sensitive Aussie bloke who doesn't feel any great urgency to settle on one specific career.

Her boyfriend, Jasper (29) has been bouncing between an array of different humanities degrees at university for over a decade now. On top of this, his current housing arrangements could be only be described as 'no fixed address'.

Jasper's day-to-day work sometimes sees him playing music as a DJ at film festivals, or occasionally he'll pick up shifts for a friend's wedding catering company.

As the daughter of Egyptian migrants who have worked tirelessly to ensure their family is never again beholden to any sudden shifts in local or global political climates - Jasper's nonchalant lifestyle is deeply problematic to Charlotte's relatives.

But aside from the fact that he is a sitting duck for authoritarian regimes, it's his laziness that is the real deal-breaker.

It's the fact that he cannot see the opportunity in this country for a fighting age Australian man with two legs and two arms.

For her father - local waterproofer, Peter Kaldas (64) - this is the worst possible outcome.

He would accept his daughter brining home someone from any ethnicity, religion, or political background - but he simply cannot accept her marrying a bloke that has no go about him.

And as every ethnic dad knows, if youre daughter does bring home someone like that, the chances are that they are gonna be Aussies who were raised on Coco Pops and Playstations.

"Why us!" bemoans Peter.

"We worked so hard. We encouraged her education. We paid for everything!"

"Why this man who sleeps in past 11 every morning be thrust upon our family"

While Peter's wife finds her daughter's boyfriend to be charming, he says he just keeps getting met with more and more red flags.

"This man's father drives a Saab. That is not a good sign"

"His brothers play racquet sports together during the week"

"Why couldn't she just fall in love with a truck driver"

However, deep down, Peter knows it could be worse. His daughter could've ended up with an Egyptian who has no go about him.
