Battle lines have been drawn inside an Bondi pub early this morning, as one of sport's greatest rivalries takes centre stage in a World Cup semi-final.
As Kane and Bellingham’s England take on Argentina in what could be Messi’s final dance on the World Cup stage, decades of sporting rivalry, war and national resentment will once again rise to the surface.
At a renowned Bondi pub/bistro, hundreds of English men and women will stand side by side with their eternal Argentine rivals, only separated by a 40cm bar.
"Yeah the majority of staff here is Brazilian, Argentinian or Italian, so I made sure to roster on all the Argies for the game" explained head manager Brett Chifley (37).
"Just for a bit of fun. They were all gonna be at the pub anyway - I may as well have them working"
As Brits spent much of the previous day talking to their dads back home who were trying to explain how much of a cheat Maradona was and that the Falkland Islands are integral to British sovereignty, the Bondi's Argentinian bar staff have spent the morning mentally preparing to smile politely through several hours of British chants.
"It's going to be extremely difficult not to point to the three stars on our jersey and scream at customers that Las Malvinas is ours" sighed one bartender.
Management has reportedly reminded both staff and patrons that while friendly rivalry is welcome, international territorial disputes and constant allegations of cheating or match fixing should ideally be kept to a minimum.
