Australia’s sweetheart, Delta Goodrem has shocked audiences at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna this year, performing as her Neighbours character, Nina Tucker.

The Australian soap, Neighbours, launched Delta’s career back in 2002 but not only that they launched one of her biggest hits to date, Born To Try. Delta’s character, Nina, was a shy school girl and aspiring singer until everything changed when she performed the hit song at a singing contest on Ramsey Street.

24 years later and Delta has decided to embrace her roots and perform the hit song that started it all. Entering the stage in a maroon and white plaid school dress, black Clarks shoes and a loose messy bun, Delta was nearly unrecognisable as she performed to millions.

Even the band on stage starred famous ex Neighbours cast members. With Margot Robbie on bass and Guy Pearce on drums, it wasn’t until Toadie came out with his signature mullet and Hawaiian shirt to join in for the bridge, that the crowd went really wild.

Members of the Australian Eurovision team, didn’t plan the Neigbours reunion for no reason but blamed it on strategy to win votes. Eurovision publicist, Miranda Booth, believes Neighbours was the key to scoring votes from UK and Irish fans.

“I mean they just fucking love that show over there don’t they, more than us in Australia” Miranda told the Advocate.

“We’re already on the backfoot at Eurovision, you know not actually being a country in Europe, so we have to do everything we can to try and get votes. No better person for that than Neighbours alumni, Delta.”

“We thought of getting Kylie and dressing her in Charlene Robinson’s famous wedding dress but she’s just too busy,” Miranda explained to our reporter.

“We’re really hoping to crush the public televoting and if we don’t win, I’m sure we’ll at least get another Neighbours revival.”
