British Couple In Australia Unsure Why Everyone Finds It Weird To Put Your Washing Machine In The Kitchen

A British couple who recently relocated to Australia have been left confused by the overwhelmingly negative response to their washing machine and dryer being located in the kitchen.

James and Sophie Williams (28 and 27), who moved to Sydney from Manchester earlier this year, say they have struggled to understand why Australians are so horrified by the concept.

"What's wrong with it?" asked James.

"That's where the washing machine always goes. Where else would you put it?"

The couple say they first became aware of the cultural difference after inviting some Australian friends over for dinner.

"They were looking around the kitchen and one of them just pointed at the washing machine and started laughing."

"I genuinely didn't understand what was funny."

Their Australian friends reportedly spent the next fifteen minutes explaining the concept of a laundry room, something the couple had never considered necessary.

"So you're telling me the houses in Australia are so big that you either have a bathroom big enough for laundry or an entire room dedicated for that sole purpose," asked Sophie.

"That seems like a tremendous waste of space."

The couple have since discovered that Australians also find it strange that British homes frequently have their dryers mounted in the kitchen.

"Apparently you lot have these massive houses with separate rooms for everything," said James.

"Must be nice."

Despite the criticism, the couple remain committed to their traditional British arrangement.
