A local bachelor has taken an important step towards financial responsibility this week, after deciding to stop wasting money on takeaway and instead spend almost twice as much cooking a single meal at home.
Sydney man Jack Riley (29) reportedly came to the conclusion after noticing he'd spent nearly $90 on Uber Eats over the weekend, convincing himself he simply needed to start cooking more.
While shopping, Jack quickly reached the conclusion that his cooking idea was already costing him more than a takeaway meal, but pushed through with the justification that he would have leftovers.
"It's the upfront costs that get you," Jack explained while unpacking his groceries.
"Once you've bought all the essentials, cooking becomes really cheap." he said in an effort to convince himself he was doing the right thing.
The meal itself reportedly took an hour and forty minutes to prepare, dirtied every piece of cookware in the apartment and produced a serving that Jack admitted was about as good as the Italian place around the corner.
Still, the 29 year old remained confident the economics would eventually work in his favour, provided he continued using the remaining ingredients before they expired.
At the time of reporting, Jack had opened the fridge to discover the bag of spinach he'd bought specifically for the recipe had already liquefied into a dark green sludge.
