Australia's Polynesian communities are as lively as ever this week, after some stand out performances from the Pacific nations at the 2026 rugby league world cup.

With the ultimate showdown between Tonga and Samoa set to take place this Sunday night at Parramatta Stadium, the lead-up to this match has seen fanfare and street parties right across the country

From Western Sydney to Logan City and North Queensland, there has even been convoys of flag-draped utes in the AFL heartlands of Perth and Melbourne.

Their previous world cup encounter between these two nations saw the blue team just edge past in a thrilling 20–18 knockout match in 2022.

It's for this reason that the global Samoan diaspora are currently doing everything to lift their team's momentum, with every son and daughter of 'the 685' showing their pride this week.

And nobody can put on a community event like the Samoans - as is currently evident in the nation's suburban parklands - still a week-out from the semi-final match against their red Island neighbours.

The same scenes are happening in the pubs and nightclubs, as hulking samoan DJs begins turning up to work wearing Toa Samoa merchandise.

As the excitement builds, the playlists range from pirated DJ Noiz remixes, to the laid back Samoan reggasong ballads of Adeaze.

And of course, there's the entire musical discographies of Tupac, Fat Joe and Lil Jon - which are all interspersed with cameo appearances from the super girly pop stars such as Miley Cyrus and Ke$ha.

However, there is no song that is more perfectly timed than Toxic by Britney Spears - which inevitably follows a hardcore rap song like Turn Down For What, and somehow makes the crowd go even wilder.

It remains to be seen how much this playlist will change after the match is played on Sunday evening, but if Samoa somehow loses, crowds can expect a teary medley of Eric Clapton, Celine Dion and Adele.
