In a pre-Origin tradition started by Wayne Bennett in the early 2000’s, QLD coach Kevin Walters has fronted the media today to tell the Blues not to worry because every single decent Queensland player might be injured.
The Maroons coach says he is tossing up over potential replacements for Thurston as ‘doubts arise’ ahead of the 8-series playmakers form ahead of Origin I in Brisbane on May 31.
Thurston injured his shoulder in last month’s Anzac Test in Canberra, but scans confirmed he would not require season-ending surgery, but no one knows when he’ll be back
Walters says he’s also not sure about whether to give Anthony Milford a run with Manly half Daly Cherry-Evans, but it doesn’t matter because they will both ‘probably be injured’ anyway.
With Greg Inglis undeniably injured, size will also be an issue for the Queensland side, as it is believed Scott, Thaiday, Papalli, Smith, Mcguire and Cronk are also having undisclosed issues with undisclosed muscles, and are not yet confirmed for either selection or run-on.
“Essentially, we don’t know who we’ll be running on”
“Don’t bother trying to make game plans around our selections, because they will probably all be injured”
