A local pub is expected to receive a Canstar Award for outstanding value this week after unveiling a very generous State of Origin offer.
Nestled next to the South Betoota train station, the Railway Hotel is the kind of proper old boozer that you wouldn’t hire to host a baby shower.
Flaunting dirty carpets, rusted old kegs for troughs and a set of beer taps that don’t feature Japanese seltzers or high octane lemonades, “The Railway” is one of the last pubs in town that’s yet to be gobbled up by some hospitality zombies and turned into a “family friendly establishment”.
And whilst it boasts a 3.2 star rating on Google maps, and an extensive collection of bad reviews which all accuse the venue of food poisoning, the pub has received a standing ovation from locals this week for having a crack with a decent beer offer.
“STATE OF ORIGIN SPECIAL - $6 Schooners until FIRST TRY !!!”, the pub posted to its 328 followers on social media.
“Cheer on the Mighty Maroons from the Railway. Best venue in town. QUEENSLANDERRRRR”
Speaking to a local corporate, 32 year old risk advisory manager Brent Hodges says the deal is good enough to convince him to head on down and see what’s going on at The Rails.
“I heard that’s the pub that used to have a meth lab out the back in the early 90s, I’ve actually never been.”
“But jeez how’s the value? You’re lucky to get a soda water for $6 in town. Ya can just not eat"
“The beauty is, if you start feeling a bit unsafe, you can just jump on a train home"
More to come.
