“Yay Mamdani Won!” Says Sydney Leftie Who Couldn't Tell You The Name Or Party Of Her Own Local Mayor

A Newtown woman is reportedly humming with joy this afternoon, after US politician Zohran Mamdani defeated Andrew Cuomo in the New York mayoral election.

Despite having no personal connections to the US whatsoever, Zoe Wren, 36, has been enthusiastically following the race ever since Mamdani popped up on her Instagram feed four months ago, likely after her fellow leftie friends caught wind of the charming democratic socialist candidate.

Though she has fastidiously followed this election and could easily tell you what Mamdani’s favourite food is, the name of his wife, and the occupation of his mother, Zoe could not tell you anything about her own mayor, even if a gun was pressed to her head.

But seeing as we don’t live in America, that’s unlikely to happen.

When asked why she knows more about US politics than her own city council, Zoe merely shrugs, saying that apart from the odd Katter or Pauline, our politicians are just… boring', and that she's a 'sucker for that Reagan style showbiz.

“Meh, have you ever watched an Australian debate? BORING!” Zoe says, with a huff, "everyone’s got the charisma of a cardboard box."

"Give me a bit of drama, a bit of charm. That’s politics I can get behind."
