South West Sydney residents are in a state of pure euphoria at the simple fact that they never have to get on the South West train replacement bus ever again.

This comes as a two year rail closure finally concludes in the great Bankstown region.

After what was actually two years of pure hell, hundreds of thousands of South West Sydneysiders can today enjoy what they have spent two years waiting for, modern rail infrastructure.

The reopening has prompted emotional scenes across the region, with commuters struggling to comprehend the prospect of travelling into the city in 15 minutes and no longer having to board a packed bus.

"I genuinely thought I'd never see the day" said Bankstown resident Michael Tran (44).

"God is great..... we made it" he said with tears running down his face.

"Two years of standing outside a station at 6:30 in the morning waiting in a 60 metre long line for a bus"

"It's changed me as a person."

For many residents, the replacement buses had become a permanent fixture of daily life, with some younger commuters unable to remember a time when trains actually ran through their suburb.

Local businesses have also welcomed the reopening, particularly cafes near stations that have spent the past two years serving a dwindling population of construction workers and people asking where the bus leaves from.

Transport authorities have praised residents for their extraordinary patience in white knuckling it throughout the duration of this specific project, acknowledging the significant hurt this closure has caused their souls.
