The rise of One Nation appears to be dictating the Liberal Party's policies, it can be confirmed.
With the Farrer By-Election just around the corner, Australia's limping right-wing party recognises that losing Sussan Ley's old seat to Pauline Hanson would be even more embarrassing than seeing the Teal indepedent movement gain a foothold in rural Australia.
And the Liberal Party is so lost, that they could just about lose the seat to anyone. Except Labor, who aren't running a candidate, because they know they'd lose and would prefer to see the Federal Opposition lose to a minor party or an independent anyway.
But that hasn't stopped the Liberals from attempting to emulate the far-right crazies that they really should be distancing themselves from.
Last week, the Coalition's leader Angus Taylor outlined a tougher approach to migration, targeting the screening and enforcement of the ever vague notion of 'Australian values'.
The proposal has been met with strong criticism from just about everyone, including the the 50% of Australia that has at least one parent or grandparent born overseas.
Opposition leader Angus Taylor used his first major policy speech on Tuesday to argue Australia's migration system needs a Trump-style social media vetting, tougher deportation measures and a stricter test of national values - meaning we should only accept immigrants who 'come from Liberal Democracies'.
As the grandson of one of the key architects behind the post-war Snowy River Hydro scheme, it is not clear whether Angus Taylor knows much about this iconic nation-building project, and whether he realises that the vast majority of all major post-war infrastructure was actually built by migrants that were fleeing dictatorships and failed states in southern and eastern Europe. It's also not clear whether he realises a large number of the NSW Riverina's farming community is made up of descendants of these migrants.
Or does he think that all of our bridges, railways and energy grid was built by charming Englishmen who were fleeing Churchill?
It's also not clear what he has against Croatians, Serbians, Bosnians and everyone else who arrived in Australia after the collapse of Yugoslavia - which most definitely was not a Liberal Democracy.
Why does Angus Taylor want the Socceroos to keep losing? Why does he hate our beloved Balkan brothers and sisters?
