Early yesterday morning, a Jetstar and a Qatar Airways plane were involved in a near miss at Sydney airport.

One Jetstar cabin crew worker was injured during the incident and two airport workers have since been stood down.

Though no passengers were physically harmed, 26 year old Finley Smith, who was travelling aboard the Jetstar A320 plane when it suddenly braked, tells a different story.

“It was already a massive gamble having a big night on the piss and a red eye the next morning. But it was about $20 bucks cheaper, which to be fair doesn’t go a long way in Sydney, but definitely felt worth it when I was booking,” she said.

“Then my 4:30am alarm went off, and I was already thinking fuck this. Anyway, ended up getting to board and guess what. Stuck on a fucking emergency row with no spew bag in front of me. I’m thinking this cannot be good.”

“Tried to lay my head on the stow table, then one of the workers comes by and says I’m not allowed to use it til we take off. It’s all just shit, and the sun is rising in my eyes because the person in front of me won’t close their window.”

“But it gets worse. We’re picking up speed, like going real fast. I have my hoodie pulled over my face at this point.”

“Then boom we slam on the brakes and I’m legit lurched forward in my seat, and that seatbelt is tight against my stomach that has a Dare iced coffee and 3 hash browns and an egg McMuffin from Maccas. Not good.”

“I’m on the verge of something very very bad by that point. I’m mouth breathing, in and out slow, kind of like yoga.”

“It’s a lot of commotion for a while. So I focus on my breathing. And then I reach this kind of zen. I’m thinking, maybe the universe set out to teach me a lesson. So no, I will never book an early flight again, let alone on a Sunday morning. The $20 is not worth it and never has been.”

“Anyway, we ended up finally getting home and I slept about 14 hours and had a sad cup of noodles for dinner.”

“Not the best hangover of my life but somehow, also not the worst.”
