Trump's two week military endeavour in Iran is starting to give more and more people that 2003 feeling.

"This is going to last 10 years isn't it?" said one Sydney man scrolling through his dystopian news feed.

With the 2020's love affair with early 2000s nostalgia showing no signs of slowing down, many are feeling like the current conflict in Iran may turn into another 2003 situation.

The Iraq War, which stretched on for years and resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths while leaving Iraq deeply unstable, has become an increasingly uncomfortable point of comparison for people watching events unfold.

"It's got all the hallmarks," said local office worker Daniel McGrath.

"It starts with 'this will be quick', then before you know it you're trying to remember which insurgent group is fighting which militia while a bloke on Sky News explains why another six months should do it."

Others admitted they had already begun mentally preparing themselves for a decade of maps featuring cities they'd never heard of, grainy footage of desert highways and politicians insisting everything would be over soon.

"I remember 2003," said a Gen X graphic designer based in Perth.

"Great music, but my god Baghdad got a lot of air time."

"The big different this time is the president says mission accomplished once a week and not once a year."
