A set of traffic lights in Betoota’s CBD have defied the odds and miraculously gone off following a couple extra pushes for good measure.
City worker Quincy Nally (26) says he’s not shocked by this morning's outcome.
“I always go press press press, wait about five seconds, then press press press again. Then if it doesn't go off then, I’ll wait another five seconds and do another press press press. And so on and so forth. So yeah not a shock to me, it’s basically a foolproof method,” he said.
“It’s nice to have some tangible evidence though.”
Tracey Higgins, a Betoota Heights local who had been waiting at the same set of lights as Quincy, says she’s never seen anything quite like it.
“Sorcery, that’s really the only explanation. He rolled up and did a press press press, and I’m thinking oh here’s one of these impatient fuckwits, don’t you know that pressing it more times doesn’t mean it’ll go off any quicker, but then there I was a second later, eating my words. He made it go off with a press press press. It was shocking.”
“You truly wouldn’t read about it,” she added.
Across the city, Quincy hopes his success story inspires other impatient button-pressers to revel in an “I told you so” moment.
“We knew impatient rapid frantic pushing of the traffic light button wasn't for nothing all this time,” he said.
“Today is for everyone who ever doubted me and cast me dirty looks at the crossing. Take that.”
More to come.
