Sweet Summer Child: Mate From Sydney Insists On Leaving An Hour Early To Find A Park

A Sydney man is currently experiencing his seventeenth wave of culture shock after landing in Queensland five days ago. 

Henry Michaels (27) had been visiting his schoolfriend Nick Eggle (28), who made the interstate move four years ago after falling for Queensland girl Jess Sampson. 

After about 48 months of saying he’d come visit sometime, Henry finally copped out and booked the $120 return flight to see if life up there was as good as Nick claimed. 

And to be fair, after a couple days, it wasn’t hard to see what Nick meant. Nice people, good weather. In fact, the group had plans to meet with a couple mates they’d run into the day before for some beers and wickets down at the local park. 

After volunteering himself and his rental car as deso, Henry began getting his ducks in a row. 

“What time do we have to get there again?” he said. 

“Like 11:30,” said Nick. “Drive’s like 20 minutes.”

“Sweet. So we’ll leave at 10,” said Henry. “Give us time to find a park and that.”

The group stared back at him. 

“Mate that city has cooked your brain. God that might be the saddest thing I’ve ever heard. An hour to find a park? They’ll be one right out the front, and it won’t be timed either. No rangers round here. You won’t even have to reverse parallel, they’ll just be carparks out the front. We’ll be sweet if we leave at 10 past 11. Don't stress,” Nick said. 

Jess moved towards Henry and gave him a tender pat on the shoulder. 

“Oh you sweet summer child,” she said solemnly. 

“We could even catch a bus if we wanted, actually.”

“Too true, we’ll just decide at 11,” said Nick. 

The pair then went outside to soak up the morning sun. Shocked, Henry followed them out and started going on about how bright the stars were last night without all the city smog.
