The NRL’s most eligible coach is being courted today, as rival clubs attempt to capitalise on the smoldering ruins left wafting from Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

The Advocate understands that recently fired coach Des Hasler is in the cross hairs of several NRL clubs, who are keen to land the signature of a man who boasts the 6th most wins by any first grade coach in NRL history.

The move comes as the NRL coaching merry-go-round was sent into a frenetic spin last week, after officials at Manly decided that the two-time premiership winning coach wasn’t a great fit for the club, despite taking Manly to two finals series in four years.

Reports from Broadmeadow this morning are suggesting that one struggling team, the Newcastle Knights, have reached out to offer Hasler a Hunter Valley olive branch, with the promise of securing some Rugby League redemption.

Newcastle media are reporting that the Knights sent Des an adorable gift hamper filled with local wines, keys to a three-bedroom unit on Merewether Beach and an old VHS tape of the Knights 1997 win over Manly, a grand final considered incredibly traumatic for many Northern Beaches locals.

It’s believed the cute gift hamper was topped off with a pointed message scribbled on a post-it note that simply read, “Wanna Do a 97’ on them?”.

Speaking to one official at the Knights, the club admitted securing Hasler would go a long way to repairing the club’s atrocious position as NRL bottom feeders.

“Obviously the last few years have been pretty rough, but if we can get Des onboard he’d be able to herd our aimless players into line and maybe even bring a Trbojevic or three into our roster.”

“We thought we better get in quick before the Dragons or the Titans pounce, they’re paddling up shit creek too, but just a bit further up than we are.”

More to come.
