It's a stunning afternoon in our cosmopolitan desert republic this afternoon but one new dad has to be home by 630.
With a few old mates in town for the first round of the Channel Country Rugby League knockout finals, Darcy Spearman, a city worker and father to a six month old, decided to join them down at popular French Quarter watering hole, The Gelded Seahorse. For a few sharp ones at least.
Some of his mates think he should be allowed out to join them in powering six schooners of heavy into themselves before the short walk across the park to Remienko Oval, where the Betoota Dolphins are taking on the Birdsville Polar Bears under lights at 8pm.
Truth to be told, he probably could've gone but he's instead chosen to go to tomorrow afternoon's fixture between the Windorah Gorillas and Quilpie Coin Slots. Speaman is a Windorah man originally and his old mates are actually going to both but they will be sick as pikes tomorrow and with much less go about them as they would have tonight.
Anyway, he's made his decision, which means upon arriving at the Geldy this afternoon at 5:27pm, he has roughly 30 minutes to consume as many schooners as humanly possible. He will end up having 5.
He has to be on the 6:02pm D45 trolley bus back up the hill to Betoota Heights and he will spend the whole focusing on not pissing his pants. And he gets off at his stop, he was walk straight down Mr Cunningham's driveway and piss between his bins. Mr Cunningham is currently on holiday so it's essentially a victimless crime.
At precisely 6:32pm, he slides his key in the door and all is good in the world.
More to come.
