As the nation basks in the glory of a stunning World Cup win, an interesting insight has been offered up by Coach Tony Popovic.

The man who orchestrated the stirring victory explained that the nation actually owes a lot of thanks to the global footballing body FIFA.

"Mate, honestly, credit where credit is due," said Popovic this morning Australian time.

"I have no idea what we would have done without those Hydration Breaks, brought to you by McDonalds, powered by Kia and driven by Rexona."

"The sweltering heat of an 18 degree night in British Columbia is brutal!"

"And without the ability for the boys to get hydrated, I'd hate to think that toll the game would have taken on their bodies."

Popovic's comments come as a bit of an about face, after he, like many others in the footballing community hammered FIFA for the greedy attempt to squeeze more money out of the tournament.

The breaks take play halfway through each half, regardless of whether it's 12 degrees in somewhere like Seattle or 35 degrees in Los Angeles.

And that has of course drawn criticism from all around the globe, with FIFA's desire to make as much coin as possible seemingly knowing no end.

However, for the Socceroos it has been lauded, with players from the notoriously cold nation happy to be able to get some Cottees Cordial during those breaks.

More to come.
