One of the rarest feats in modern rural real estate history unfolded locally over the weekend with an agent managing to sell a farm without a golden hour drone shot.
Phil McCracken, of McCracken & Co Stock, Station and Estate out on the Betoota City limits, sold 'Angledoon' via Betoota at auction for a price well above guide to an overseas buyer.
Most of the images of the property on the online listing were rather crude, done with the firm's decade old DSL and compressed to buggery before being uploaded to the popular real estate websites.
MrCracken says there was a steady stream of interest, which ultimately culminated in a Korean private equity firm purchasing the 50,000ha irrigation operation that most notably came with a disproportionately large irrigation licence and a grey fergie.
"It's a great result," McCracken told The Advocate.
"But these properties, they really sell themselves. We felt that, you know, maybe through sheer arrogance that we'd be able to flog this block without having to get the drone out. Without having to use photos from 2021, in the weeks after that significant rain event we all remember. We even used a photo of the horse paddock. Only a really crude one of the best paddocks on the place,"
"Truly incredible when you think about it. With the changes coming to investment properties in the city, I can only see more sophisticated local investors turning their attention toward rural property. With that in mind, not sure I'll be getting the drone out any time soon,"
"I feel for those blokes down in Orange in NSW. Having to sell places you would've laughed at 10 years ago. Like proper shitholes. Ugly houses. Paddocks full of burrs and thistle. Rooted fences. Having to flog them to pathetic urbanites that can't even wrangle three beds in Balmain. Dreaful. Their drones would be spending more time in the air than bloody Albo, I tell you that."
More to come.
