A new study at Betoota University has found the average Gold Coast citizen loses approximately 4.5 weeks a year stuck somewhere between their residence and Brisbane.
Infamous for its congestion, the M1 Pacific Motorway bests even those who leave nice and early in an attempt to get a clean run through.
The Advocate caught up with James Pipp, a Broadbeach resident who commutes between the cities 5 days a week.
“Yeah, you’ve got to remember time of day is irrelevant on that road,” he said.
“You can pass through at 4am or 1pm and you’re still going to be bumper to bumper,”
“And trust me, I’ve tried the whole 4am thing,”
Pipp, however, is questioning the accuracy of the statistics.
“To be honest, I reckon it’d be more like 10 weeks a year for me, easily,”
Still, the 34 year old financial analyst insists he’d rather spend 6 hours a day in the car than move to Brisbane.
“It’s worth every minute,”
“I’d never trade being near the water for a job,” he said, despite only managing to get down to the beach every other Saturday.
“Besides, Cavill Ave is way better than the Valley, anyway,”
Pipp refused to comment on whether the fuel crisis has had him second guessing this resolution.
More to come.
