Regional Mate Only Willing To Brave A Visit To The City For Tattoo Convention

A Brisbane man is brushing up on his tour guide skills this week as he prepares to host one of his mates from his regional home town.

After spending the last six years working for a big four bank on Queen Street, Blake Whyatt has well and truly morphed into the type of character his mates from back in Windorah refer to as “a city slicker”.

And while his dress sense and coffee order has vastly changed since his country days, this weekend Blake’s ability to show out of towners a good time is expected to be tested, as he welcomes the arrival of one of his mates from high school, 28 year old diesel fitter Logan Ford.

In a text message exchange seen by The Advocate, it’s understood Logan will be making his first trip to the city in almost three years, after buying tickets to the ‘Inked Expo’, a three day tattoo extravaganza at the Brisbane convention centre.

“Oi bro, what’s doin this weekend?” messaged Logan at 10am on a Tuesday.

“Think I’m coming to Brissy this weekend, got tix to that tattoo expo. Any chance I can crash at yours?”

Having not seen his good mate since returning home for Christmas, Blake tells The Advocate he’s more than happy to host his friend, as long as he doesn’t get caught up in a big night out, like the last time his regional mate was let loose in the city and blew his entire pay check at the casino, shouting drinks for exotic backpackers he met in the sports bar.

“Should be all good, he rarely comes up this way so I can’t really say no, can I?’ Blake told our reporter this morning.

“But I won’t be babysitting him all weekend if he thinks I’m keen to blow $89 to wander rows of tattoo artists, I’ll have to come up with some excuse to skip the daytime activities cos I haven’t gotten any ink since he gave me a Nike tick on my arse in Year 10.”

More to come.
