As the world stares down a rather fractured looking future, a major leftie event has been put on rapidly melting ice.
With half of France out on the streets day and night, the cost of everything through the roof, the global rules based order no longer a thing anymore, and the fabric of Australian society fraying online and spilling into real life - the Nup To The Cup protests have reportedly been put on hold.
While a few eager beavers are still likely to hit the streets anyway on the first Tuesday in November, most of the steam has come out of the movement in the last year or so, with lefties being a bit more focused on actual problems.
Previously, the protests had flared up on the one day a year that horse racing occurs in the Australian calendar, with a bit of fake blood thrown around and some colourful costumes entertaining the majority of race goers heading in for the day.
However, with bumper crowds pouring through the gates over the weekend, and a tired nation not really feeling the need to take the joy out of a potential arvo or day off in the name of equine welfare, Nup To The Cuppers have been urged to maybe give it a spell this year.
"I think we've seen how powerless anyone is to do anything about our sportsbetting overlords and their hold on our sporting and recreational culture," said one local man who doesn't really get around the Cup, but doesn't mind the opportunity to take a minute from his job and his toils.
"So I don't think anyone's gonna have much luck shutting down one of the back bones of that industry."
More to come.
