A local man who hates running but wants to lose some weight has been absolutely humbled by an 84 year old lady in the pool.
Nathan Chester (33), who decided he wants to start doing laps every week, had a huge reality check when an 84 year old lady elegantly and effortlessly over took him multiple times.
"She isn't even pausing before laps, how on earth is this even possible??" said Nathan.
Nathan had arrived at the pool feeling quietly confident after purchasing goggles and managing to swim his first 100 metres without stopping.
However, his confidence quickly disappeared after noticing a much older lady with a surf life saving cap that looked like it dated back to the 80s.
"I was genuinely fighting for my life after 200 metres and she's just gliding past me like a seal."
"Then she gets to the wall, does this perfect little tumbleturn and she's gone again."
Witnesses say Nathan initially attempted to match the woman's pace, before giving up roughly 35 metres later and pretending he needed to adjust his goggles.
The humiliation only continued when Nathan took a two-minute rest at the shallow end and watched his new rival complete another four laps.
"She must have been swimming for about 45 minutes straight," he said.
Nathan says the experience has completely changed his understanding of what constitutes being fit.
He eventually left the pool exhausted after completing one km just under an hour.
