As the nation enjoys a slow and painful constriction at the hands of a fuel crisis decades and multiple governments in the making, a number of free thinkers are continuing on with a noisy and relatively pointless campaign.
With markets squeezed by the genius political operator who has made America great again and ended the forever wars, Australia has felt the brunt of the price rises.
Rather than talking about the 3 decades spent on doing as little as possible to sure up our energy future with renewable and cheap resources we have in an abundance - the noise has been around how we have heaps of oil and we should pull it out of the ground and put it into servos this arvo or tomorrow morning at the latest.
The pointless at best (or disingenuous and deceptively misleading at worst) noise comes from the usual cast of characters backed by at best (or deliberately pushing commercial interests of at worst), Australia's most wealthy and powerful.
One particular line has been around opening up the Taroom trough that has vast reserves of oil.
While it may have plenty of oil below the field, the place produces 200 barrels a day (just enough to fill up one dual tank Prado) and may actually have fuck all below.
On top of the time it would take to open up, it's also yet to be revealed who actually wants to drill for this shit without absurd amounts of government funding (unless the government wants to go down the path of 'socialism' and drill for it ourselves?).
It's also yet to be revealed who's gonna spend 2 or 3 years getting a new oil refinery full operational, given so much of our fuel can be bought for way cheaper from mega refineries overseas.
However, regardless of facts, the feelings associated with DRILLING FOR OUR OWN OIL BABY make for great soundbites and memes, so it's likely there's plenty more to come.
