52 year old Betoota Heights local Tracey Hughes was this morning dealt a devastating blow.
The mum of four says the incident occurred just seconds after she boarded the busy 881 bus at the corner of George Street, opposite IGA.
“Yes it was busy,” she said, “but it's usually busy at that time. The route stops by Betoota Ponds Memorial High, so it’s filled with schoolkids and the morning commuters too. So I’m very much used to standing.”
“Anyway. I hopped on, and I’d hardly finished tapping my Go Card before I heard this little voice saying ‘here you go miss, you can sit here’. This little shit had actually stood up from his seat in the priority area and was acting as if he was God’s gift giving me a spot to sit.”
“How old do I look to you? No don’t answer that. For fuck’s sake. It was my birthday in May. I’ve got 15 years until I can retire and there’s already smug little iPad babies treating me as if I’ll turn into a pile of dust if I stay standing too long.”
“Of course I took the seat. I mean I’d be a crazy woman to turn that down just to make a point. But I’d also be a crazy woman to say I wasn’t deeply, deeply hurt.”
“Before this morning I would’ve confidently said I’d have another ten to twenty years before I’m getting offered priority bus seats. I do pilates once a week. I've got a great anti-aging cream from the pharmacy. I look good.”
“I don’t know. Maybe not. I either ramp up the pilates, maybe get in the pool a few times a week, or check if there’s flights to Seoul on sale. Find a good doctor. It’s just something to think about I suppose.”
More to come.
