BARELY A HICCUP: After playing the role of One Nation cheerleaders for the last 12 months, the Victorian media has this week suddenly betrayed Pauline Hanson and her new stable of Victorian candidates.

Ahead of the 2026 state election, it seems that the hype surrounding this Queensland minor party has been pulled from the newspapers, after NewsCorp achieved their most pertinent objective of having Jacinta Allan ousted as Victorian Premier.

However, with Allan being replaced by what appears to be a formidable straight white male in Ben Carrol, the conservative media are now starting to think that Labor could survive the One Nation tsunami, and the only victims will be the limping Liberal Party who could very well be wiped from the Victorian electoral map entirely.

To combat this monster of their own making, the media have this week begun a smear campaign against the Victorian branch of One Nation.

This comes as the party's newly named Victorian leader, Warren Pickering, was forced to admit to a history of recreational drug use when he was younger.

The 43-year-old's his former partner was quoted by the The Australian on Monday, admitting that they used illicit drugs while they were together about two decades ago.

Pickering, who is running for the seat of Pakenham, appears to have been doing exactly what every other 20-something from Melbourne was doing when Carl Williams was still in business.

He denied his former partner's claims in the newspaper that they used methamphetamine - but did admit to a drink driving charge.

In an election that will be defined by the far-right populism that is now seducing an electorate tormented by a cost of living crisis and post-pandemic malaise, it was a strange decision by the elitist Melbourne media to denigrate One Nation by accusing their leader of being morally questionable.

Considering he represents a party that is calling for tax-free cigarettes and to strip Australians of their citizenship based on race, a bit of goey and a DUI is the most chill thing about Warren Pickering's candidacy.
