Everything was going to change for one local Betoota woman who put down the phone and picked up a freshly purchased, tie bound journal on her trip to France.

24 year old Amanda Davies, wanted to try and stay present while in Paris and embrace the artist culture that has been part of the city of love for hundreds of years.

“My screen time was averaging like 7 hours a day, it was really bad” Amanda told our reporter.

“Then on the flight to France, I watched Midnight in Paris and I was like fuck this, I’m gonna write everything down, not even on a Substack like old school style in a journal.”

Amanda went to a market and found the most ancient looking tie bound journal to keep with the vintage Parisian aesthetic.

“It was amazing at first, I was going to cafes and writing down all my thoughts, it was brilliant!”

“I couldn’t put the pen down, it was so easy!”

But on her third day, Amanda started to slow down, her once in-depth journal entries now becoming more like a year 2s Monday morning summary of the weekend.

“Yeah I started to drop off a bit, sentences started reading real simple” Amanda told the Advocate.

One of her journal entries reading “went to this French restaurant, steak was so good.” Another just simply “saw the Eiffel Tower.”

By the fourth day, Amanda picked up her phone for just a simple scroll but found herself an hour later still in her hotel bed, locked in on an 8 part “worst hostel experience ever” series on Tik Tok.

By the fifth day she had completely given up on the whole journal thing, leaving herself with a whole 5 pages from her holiday.
