As universities across the nation return for semester two and forcefully subject their students to painstaking icebreakers, a local woman has seized the opportunity to reflect on her origins as a musical creative.
Maia Doorsby (23), who is entering her final months of a business degree, says she had been dreading her last ever round of week one introductions.
So when the tutor insisted the class search the room for a partner, she quickly turned to 22 year old Harry Nilsson sitting beside her.
The pair began getting acquainted and exchanging general niceties, and after quickly touching on what suburb they live in, or how many siblings each have, Harry asked Maia if she plays any instruments.
“Ohhhh ummmm. Not really. I played flute in primary school for a bit, which was fun. I mean I lowkey used to cry everytime Mum forced me to practice but yeah I do wish I stuck with it,” she said.
“Actually I was kind of a natural at it. We used to perform on parade.”
“Oh and also I did a semester of piano in year eight, we had music class for a bit. So yeah, like I don't fully play any instruments but I can do a little bit of everything.”
“Every Good Boy Deserves Fruit and what’s that other one, Face in space. Like I could probably read music if I remember that and lock in for a sec. I haven’t tried but I’d say I still could.”
“Anyway, do you play anything?”
Harry then revealed he’s played the guitar and drums since he was about five and is currently on tour with his band.
“Ohhh nice that’s cool. Hmu if you need a flutist ha ha.”
