Local Mum Overwhelmed With Excitement After A National Address, AusAlert Siren And Now Census!!!

It's been a big year for civic duty, and one local empty-nester can't get enough of it.

Annette Jamerson (65) has spent the day hounding her adult and teenage kids - reminding them to make sure they do not miss the crucial national milestone that is taking place tonight!

Known as The Australian Bureau Of Statistics' Census - the nationwide survey collects information about everything from population and age to income, housing, education, employment and languages spoken at home.

This information helps governments, businesses and community organisations plan for the future - and provides greater insights about the cultural fault lines that exist within greater Australian society.

Every household across the nation is required to complete the survey tonight - and Annette couldn't be more thrilled.

Tonight's Census is just another chapter in what has been an otherwise rather exciting year.

First of all, the Prime Minister kindly requested that she, and the rest of the country, tune in to his April 1st National Address - where he outlined the government's response to the historic spike in fuel prices caused by the conflict in the Middle East.

While Annette did exactly as she was told to help conserve fuel over the Easter period, the oil crisis didn't end up being as bad as predicted - so she's now able to look back at this ominous evening with a smile.

Then, late last month, we had the inaugral AusAlert siren test at 2pm on the 27th of July. The critical warning test reached roughly 94% of mobile towers across the country ahead of the system's official rollout in October 2026.

It was very exciting, even if it only lasted ten-seconds.

But tonight's census is a real treat. One that only comes around every five years. A moment of true ubiquity that the nation's mums and nannas can share with the rest of the country.

"We're all prepped here" says Annette.

"We're going to have an early dinner and get stuck in! I've got the mint slices and tea ready to go!"
