A former momentary great has spent some time soul searching with The Betoota Advocate today.
Eric Paulson (34) has confirmed to our humble regional newspaper that he's coming to terms with the fact that his sporting career is pretty much over.
While he had officially retired 3 years ago, Eric had still been enjoying the fruits of a sporadic and last minute call up to have a run around in ressies or 3s on the weekend.
However, the promising forward who was once talked about for a contract down in the city, has now gone nearly 400 days without lacing the boots up for anything other than Monday Night touch footy.
"Yeah, it's been a long time between drinks," sighed Eric, who used to feign annoyance about 'being hassled to come and have a run.'
"And I'm beginning to think that the call may never come again."
The 'call' Eric is referencing is the Thursday arvo-Saturday morning period where any one of his 3 former coaches might shoot him a message to ask if 'he's around this weekend.'
Of course, that request was not so Eric and his former coaches can catch up for coffee, but a request to see if Eric wants to pull on the guernsey and help the club out.
However, with an entire season and a half going by since any coaches from the club asked what he was doing this weekend - Eric says he's now done.
"Yeah, that's it I guess."
"You don't know what you've got till it's gone."
