Local man, Bryan Pleats (40) is a big believer in the old Queensland saying that 'ya learn something new every day'.
Because that's the only way to explain the enlightening experience he just had at HEAD HIGH CUTZ in Betoota's Flight Path District this afternoon.
Sitting in the barber's chair moments ago, Bryan was just made aware that the entire United States of America's constitution was based entirely off Ancient Persia.
Prior to booking in for a tidy up of his beard and sides, Bryan had never once considered the fact that the the 3rd US President and Founding Father, Thomas Jefferson, had enthusiastically studied ancient texts that detailed the leadership and unconventional governance of Cyrus the Great of the Achaemenid Persian Empire.
He also had never realised that the Persian empire was 'basically a bunch of mini countries' which is 'basically the same as America except they have states"
Bryan's barber, who he has been visiting for five years but still has not yet managed to catch his name despite their extremely personable friendship and intimate knowledge of each other's day-to-day family life, is quite reliable for this kind of general knowledge.
And maybe it's because of the barber's own cultural heritage, but the vast majority of these fascinating lesser-known facts tend to about - or at least adjacent to - Persian history.
What it is even more interesting is the fact that this 35 minute, mostly one-sided, discussion about the two greatest empires in human history could be conducted without once referencing the fact that both of them are currently at war with each other.
"Bro" says Bryan's barber.
"Do you know who invented plumbing?"
"Have a guess"
