A local man who has declined the last four invites to social gatherings has been forced to agree to the fifth one in order not to lose his entire friendships circle.

Benny Thomas (27), a serial over thinker and introvert, has today been forced to brave a party with his close friends out of fear of losing close friend status.

"Yeah I do love these guys, but I'm really more of a one on one person, but if i say no it will have been the fifth time in a row I said no so this has to be done really," he explained.

Thomas says he operates under a carefully calculated social attendance ratio that has kept his friendships alive for years.

"One appearance every month is usually enough to remind everyone I'm still alive. I show up, make a few jokes, ask everyone how work's going, then quietly disappear before anyone suggests going somewhere else."

The Sydney resident admitted he'd already spent more time mentally preparing for the evening than the event itself would actually last.

"I've been rehearsing conversations in my head since Tuesday. Realistically I'll end up standing near the snacks for three hours and leave wondering if I spoke too much or not enough."
