A long, long, long suffering Saints fan has begun the week with a new found pep in his step this morning, it can be confirmed.

"Look, Monday's are never a particularly fun time of the week, particularly when you are a loud and proud St Kilda fan and you get roasted most Monday mornings," said Windsor Elwood (48).

"But you know what."

"It might be chilly, but the suns out, the Saints are humming, and we've been offered inspiration from the other end of the world."

That inspiration according to Elwood, is the lifting of the 'Mayo Curse' in Ireland.

Legend goes that the rather humorous curse was placed on the Mayo Gaelic Football team by a local priest in 1951 after they celebrated their win going past a funeral.

However, 75 years later (with the last remaining member of the winning team passing 5 years ago) Mayo has won the All Ireland title and broken the curse at Croke Park.

That stunning victory has been felt around the world, with the Irish diaspora and Paddyphiles marvelling at the win.

It's also been felt by long suffering Saints fans, who are beginning to wonder if maybe their curse can one day be lifted.

"I mean, I don't wanna jinx anything," said Elwood.

"But, 1951, 1966. Happy to wait 15 if you can guarantee me something..."

"However, those Mayo boys have proven it's possible."

"And one of those fellas is coming down under," he said of Kobe McDonald has signed a deal with St Kilda and is expected to join the AFL side shortly.
