In some shocking but hardly surprising news, the nation's political and media class are once again failing to rise to the occasion.
With a week of endless headlines and talking points on why a 0.4% drop in house prices is going to ruin the country, a rather stark lack of outrage has been offered up on the shocking spate of domestic violence actually plaguing the country.
Despite being an issue that warrants outrage, the nation's political leaders and media talking heads have put forward little other than a few platitudes.
This comes after two women and two teenage girls have been allegedly murdered in Australia in the last seven days alone: Lavanya Chappa, 39, Jana Armstrong, 30, Layla Jeffery, 13, and an unnamed 17-year-old girl.
The deaths take the list of women killed to over 27 for the year, and comes after over 70 were murdered last year.
The despicable acts of violence have of course drawn calls for a Royal Commission, from absolutely no media organisations or major political parties, who apparently don't see any merit in acting on the issue or at the very least turning it into a political football.
While the nation shakes its head in despair at the seemingly endless run of news stories about people being killed in domestic violence incidents, the government is yet to confirm how many more people have to die before they do something more than a solemn nod of the head and make a throwaway promise of minor funding.
It's also yet to be confirmed where the staunch law and order people are on the issue of people killing women and children.
It is however hoped by people across the nation that maybe a fraction of the $368 billion spent on a handful of submarines that won't arrive for another 20 years could be spent on trying to combat the scourge of violence that is the biggest threat to so many lives and ways of life across Australia.
More to come.
