Fourteen drunk and sunburnt Irish nationals have been taken into Federal custody today, as the Department of Home Affairs moves quickly to action the Labor Government's new Immigration policies.

Once viewed as the charming and naughty visa fraudsters, the Irish are now fair game as the government beefs up their enforcement tactics in suburban hotspots for overstayers.

This comes as the Home Affairs minister, Tony Burke, has unveiled long-awaited changes to Australia's immigration rules, promising to bring down net overseas migration down by 70k over the next couple years because the reason everyone is feeling poorer is not because we shut down our economy for three years because of a virus but it's because of young people arriving here to do jobs.

And for some of them, time is up!

Especially the ones who aren't actually allowed to be here.

Foreign citizens staying in Australia without a valid visa face new enforcement measures to force them to go back home where they belong.

The announcement has received praise from business groups for not fully destroying the business model of those industries that rely on paying cheaper wages to short-term migrants, While universities are frustrated that their cash cows of international students who are slowly trying to migrate here through bridging visas and endless courses might be reined in.

But first, the droves of Irish who have never seen a beach before and are now breaking the law in an effort to stay near one. Namely, in places like Coogee and The Gold Coast.

The first raid of the front bar of the Espy has already netted fourteen unwitting Irish and two Brazillians with more stings expected across NSW and Victoria this weekend.
