L Plater Unsure Whether To Drive With Mum Who Cares Too Much Or Dad Who Doesn’t At All

Getting 100 hours hasn’t been exactly straight forward for 16 year old Mahli Pitt. 

In fact, according to the Betoota Heights local, being behind the wheel with either one of her parents in the passenger seat is ‘nothing short of a nightmare’. 

And yet, with a free afternoon from study and both parents home, Mahli couldn't help but feel this afternoon was the perfect opportunity to ask one of them to take her out for a drive this afternoon. The only problem was who to ask.

“If I go out with Dad, it’s alright, definitely keeps the cortisol levels slightly lower. But really only slightly, because he actually doesn’t teach at all. As in I ask him whether I should turn left or right and he just shrugs, or has a facebook reel playing at full blast. Or I get to the roundabout and I say ‘Dad, what do I need to do’, and he just says ‘we’re going right’, like yep, I knew that mate, I’m talking about who to give way to, fuckwit.” she said. 

“But then with Mum, we can genuinely be about 50 metres away from the car in front of us parked at the traffic lights, and she’ll be screeching ‘slow downnnnnn!!!!!!!’ and ‘brakeeeeee!!!!!!’, then I slam on the brakes, and she’s launched into the glovebox, hand firm on the handle and all. Really, it’s a shitfight.”

“And don’t even get me started on parking. Last time we went down to Westfield she made me pull over on a side street nearby and get out so she could park the car. She said I wouldn’t know what to do, but like, she didn’t even give me a chance?”

“Basically, I’m doomed. I only have 10 hours and my birthday is in November. And none of them are night hours because Mum says driving at night isn’t good for her glasses.” 

Accepting her inevitable future as the mate that constantly needs to be picked up and dropped off, Mahli decided it might be best to skip a drive this afternoon altogether.
