The Hobart Hurricanes are reportedly the first Big Bash League team to be sold off by Cricket Australia this week after the nation's peak cricketing body announced the privatisation of the league has been greenlit.

It's understood by The Advocate that the BBL14 champions have been snapped up by a local buyer, with the offer of a good caravan and two pairs of going-out shoes being too good for the mainland administrators to pass up.

Sources close to the deal weren't able to identify the make and model of the caravan, but were in a position to confirm that it is good.

The going-out shoes are said to be a pair of Tasmanian-made leather Blundstone boots from 1993, in the traditional working-class black colour, and a nice pair of Dunlop Arrows from a similar time period.

Cricket Australia and the Hobart Hurricanes remain tight-lipped, refusing to answer a string of polite questions put to them by this masthead today.

Around Hobart, the fear that yet another great Tasmanian institution has been bought and flogged off by a group of feckless mainland suckholes has been allayed somewhat by the news.

"Geez, you'd think they'd be worth more than that," said one local.

Our reporter phoned the Hope & Anchor front bar and asked to speak to the puce-faced man closest to the telephone. He was happy to answer our questions but asked to remain anonymous.

"Times are changing down here. Soon, they'll be selling off another great Tasmanian company like Video City or Chickenfeed. Progress, eh? Ah well, hopefully they don't sell our footy team for another bargain price like that."

More to come.
