After a brutal decade in which studios cranked out gender-swapped remakes of Ghostbusters, Ocean's Eleven and an all-female Saving Private Ryan in which the femmeplatoon stormed the beaches of Normandy to rescue a guy who, frankly, should have just texted back, Tinseltown has finally rediscovered its nerve.
Sources confirmed this week that Hollywood is officially “so back,” announcing a bold, all-male remake of the 1996 classic The First Wives Club, starring brothers Luke, Chris, and Liam Hemsworth in full drag.
"For ten years they told us the only way to honour a beloved film was to recast every role with the opposite gender and dare audiences to call it bad," said producer Don Halloran.
"We're simply continuing that proud tradition. The only difference is that ours rules."
The film reportedly follows three middle-aged ex-wives, who reunite to plot revenge against the younger women who replaced them.
Luke Hemsworth, who takes on the Bette Midler role, called it the most demanding part of his career.
"Thor was easy. You just swing the hammer," he said.
“"But landing a one-liner about alimony in heels while looking this stunning? You can't teach that."
Critics who spent the 2010s insisting that complaining about remakes made you a bigot have reportedly gone strangely quiet.
More to come.
