The English World Cup drought will now enter it's 7th decade as Argentina staged a cruel but dazzling come-from-behind victory over the Three Lions in the semi final. The final score was 2-1.

And even crueler for the poms, there was no real contention of unfair refereeing decisions or foul conduct from the opposition.

This was a fair and square loss. And one that will haunt another generation of both English footballers and fans.

The Argentinians, however, cannot believe their luck. One, the nation enjoys the extreme privilege of having Lionel Messi captain their side. Two, they now have the chance to become the first team since 1962 to win back-to-back FIFA World Cups when they play Spain in the final on Sunday morning.

Back in the Wetherspoons and living rooms of a stuffy and gloomy England, the nation is once again awash with the painfully familiar feeling of a colossal sporting anti-climax.

For a nation that has so visibly struggled since the pandemic, the rise of the Three Lions saw one of the great lifts in national morale.

But as of several hours ago, they must not wait another four years.

This vaccum of national pride has seen England burn through 6 prime ministers in the last 10 years. As the nation's continue to kick the can down the road with their hands in their pockets, looking back at the pre-pandemic glory days of the Spice Girls, Amy Winehouse and the London Olympics with rose coloured glasses.

However, there is still one more hope.

One more great contest, that pits the English against the rest of the world.

One more moment to bring back that warm feeling of English excellence.

There is one hero still standing in the miserable wake of this world cup semi final. Sill channelling the pride of England.

Count Binface.

Much like the Three Lions, he is taking on foreign Oligarch-funded opponents with nothing but the crowds of cheering English behind him.

The Clacton By-Election campaign will now absorb the pub songs and flags of millions of heartbroken English football fans. The nation is in desperate need of a win, and Count Binface as the candidate that can deliver them one.

It's coming home to Clacton.
