A so-called movie lover didn't even see Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey in its intended format.

Ethan Reyes (30) who claims to like movies, revealed his true amateur colours by not watching The Odyssey in 70mm film on an IMAX screen.

While Ethan insists he lives 1700 kilometres away from the nearest IMAX cinema that can also display 70mm film in Melbourne, the 30-year-old is struggling to avoid the 'casual movie goer' allegations.

"I swear I tried! I swear! It was sold out! Flights were expensive!! Please, it's just a movie!" He decried.

Friends say Ethan's decision to simply watch the film at his local cinema has permanently tainted every future opinion he may have on cinematography, aspect ratios, or any other film critique.

"Sure, he technically watched the same movie" explained one of Ethan's friends that decided to not waste this experience on anything other than an IMAX cinema.

"But did he? If he can't watch it in it's intended format it just shows a complete lack of respect for Nolan and filmmaking in general?"

Another friend added that while Ethan remains entitled to enjoy the film, he has automatically forfeited the right to describe it as "visually stunning" until he has experienced the extra sliver of image available during selected scenes.

At press time Ethan had reluctantly accepted that, despite a lifetime of movie going, he is no longer a true film lover.

He is now expected to wait several years until Christopher Nolan re-releases it in 70mm so he can finally earn permission to discuss it online.
